Is owning a franchise the right choice for you and your family as a business owner and entrepreneur? The reality is that in today's changing economy, working in a job just isn't the same as it used to be. The only way to truly become wealthy and live the lifestyle you've always dreamed of is to be an entrepreneur and own your own business.

The question is, "What kind of business is right for me?" "Is a franchise right for me?"

Here's what we know currently about franchises. They are proven to work because of 1 critical component most businesses don't have... A SYSTEM. System stands for Save Your Self Time Energy & Money. Well that sounds good to me.

Let's be honest here. The most successful franchise in the world is McDonald's, and it's not because of their great tasting food (even though I'd argue their fries are pretty darn good:)). They have such an amazing system that will produce the same results anywhere in the world.

As a typical business owner, you might not have that luxury. You might not have a well-established system in place for your business. In fact, I'm sure most of you (just like me) learned entrepreneurship and business ownership as we went along. You've probably made tons of mistakes which has cost you a ton of money.

The downsides of "typical" franchises might be a territory restriction and/or royalty fees among having to stay within the guidelines of what the franchise can do. If you are a creative person always trying out new ideas, then owning a franchise might not be for you.

Overall, over 70% of franchise owners report they are profitable. You have a brand name that already comes with an image, reputation, or whatever. Note: not all brands are good though in the public's eyes. You have ongoing support and ongoing education to keep you up-to-date with changes and current market trends. You have the power of leverage in that the franchisor usually already has preferred vendors in place and has serious negotiating power (on your behalf) in the matters of real estate location, other vendors, etc.

Getting financing for a franchise start up is usually easier as banks actually prefer to lend to franchises because of their success. As you go through the process of owning a franchise, you will have the chance to meet or visit the headquarters, meet the executives and the FDD will provide you a ton of information about the company in terms of any pending litigation, financial statements etc. Bottom line is you have a good solid understanding of the financial position of the potential franchisor.

At the end of the day, owning a franchise is a pretty wise choice for entrepreneurs who want the highest probability of success and who want to live their American Dream.
